Tokio -- with the GBS girls

Nadia, Che' Nah, Me and Kat

I have 10 minutes before lecture and I am blogging on my phone. This was a farewell get together between the GBS girls of FOE for Dr Azura who will be moving north to a rocking university that is hopefully better than MMU in every aspect save its people. Because GBs only thrives here.

Ida, Zu, Zura (*all the best dearest!) and Miza

Since ma'al hijrah was just last week, we are all very supportive of Zura's decision to leave, so supportive in fact that everyone was excitedly discussing career options elsewhere. Worst case scenario, we will all quit, shelve our doctorates, burn those rejected journal papers, become full time moms and get together for lunch and manicures every so often. Bliss. Now we only need rich husbands.

Nadia with her tea
There's 8 of us here but I am not going to review 8 dishes today. In the spirit of UPSR (since everybody's kids' got 5A's), answer this question: if 3 people ordered spicy olio, 2 people ordered baked rice pesto and the remainder 3 people ordered different dishes, how many dishes will be reviewed in this post altogether?

5 is correct. Bravo.

Drumroll begin..

Dish 1: Spicy Oglio-olio which, according to Che'Nah was not spicy at all. So if you are looking for a hot dish, bring your own Tabasco sauce. Che' Nah also said it tasted bland in the beginning but gets better in time like a Leona Lewis song. Don't go for it unless you're bored with excitement.

Dish 2: Pasta de Pesto. Nadia's dish. It was great because Nadia was all smiles. Deputy deans rarely smile. They just usually frown and grow white hair. Masha'Allah.

Yakiniku Set. Japanese Menu

Chicken Teriyaki Set

Dishes 3 & 4: From the Japanese menu: Chicken Teriyaki and Yakiniku. Me and Zu decided to go Japanese. Our sets came with green tea, miso soup (that bland tauhu soupie) and some wrinkly veggies. The rice came in a covered jewellery box. It was good except I thought my chicken was a tad raw. Just a tad, mind. I am sure all the salmonella was killed and the dish is okay for pregnant moms. But I would avoid it just to be on the safe side if I were you (and pregnant) -- which, like some of the filters I teach in DSP, very much unrealizable. The teriyaki sauce was clever--like the Japanese. Zu said her dish was good too but the portion was a bit much. Bottom line: Don't order the Japanese sets if you're on a diet and pregnant.

Cheese-baked Pesto Rice with chicken
Olio-olio chicken.

Dish 5: the award winning dish goes to Miza's and Zura's dish: Pesto Rice with Chicken. Just one spoonful propelled me back to the UK indulging in some Marks & Spencer world-class food. Except this time it's only Tokia so I remain perfectly loyal to Palestine and my conscious remains clear.

Japanese Cheese Cake. B
Pavlova, Angelic Bliss!! A++

And desert? The macademia cheesecake wins! (see previous post for awesome picture). Pavlova comes in second. The other two cakes tasted like they came from Giant Superstores. And Giant Superstore cakes are okay! Just not when its a going-away party.

Tokio still remains awesome in my book though. Highly recommended! Be there or be Japanese!
